A Short-Form Video Strategy That Actually Works for Athletes
Short-form video is the fastest way for an athlete to grow. Here's how to plan, film and structure videos that get watched — not just posted.
The first 1.5 seconds decide everything
On TikTok, Reels and Shorts, you earn the next second by winning the last one. Your hook is visual, verbal and immediate: a movement, a claim, a question. 'Watch how I..' beats 'Hey guys' every single time.
Athletes have an unfair advantage here — your life is inherently visual. Use it. Open on action, not on explanation.
Three formats that consistently perform
1. The POV session — first-person training with a single insight overlaid. 2. The transformation — then vs now, before vs after, beginner vs pro. 3. The answer — a common question from your sport answered in 30 seconds.
Rotate these three and you'll never run out of ideas, because each one maps to something you already do every week.
Batch, don't drip
Filming one video a day burns you out. Filming ten in one session and scheduling them across two weeks keeps you consistent and sane. This is how a content team keeps an athlete posting daily without the athlete thinking about content daily.
